    As a former manager of the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce, Marley Halter is no stranger to business.  Prior to accepting the challenge of taking the Chamber from 147 members to (now) the largest regional chamber in the country, Marley owned and operated her own successful recruitment agency for four years.

    Marley’s career spans almost two decades in senior roles within the HR/Recruitment sector, and she believes that it is this experience and understanding of the needs of business together with strong business ethics and relationships across all sectors, that will assist grow, strengthen and develop the Southport Chamber of Commerce.

    This Chamber plays such an important role as the voice of business in this city and is integral to the ongoing growth and success of the community.

    Darren Brent is Principal and Managing Director of Property Bridge, located in Bundall. Property Bridge is a respected business brokerage firm specialising in the sale of Management Rights and Resorts.

    Darren has a wealth of experience at Senior Management and Director levels within the Corporate, Property, Financial and Hospitality sectors, with roles including responsibility for the risk profile of a multi- billion-dollar residential portfolio through to operating a management rights business.

    Managing Director of Accountable List Brokers (ALB), President of Southport Chamber of Commerce and Founder of Prevent Youth Suicide.

    Laird established ALB, a National Mailing List Company, over 29 years ago and since that time, has been associated with many Not For Profit Businesses in Honorary Roles, previously Chair of the Aust. Direct Marketing Association QLD, Board member of the Fundraising Assoc. QLD and President of the Milton Chamber of Commerce.

    As a previous Adjunct Fellow at Bond University lecturing in Direct Marketing, Laird understands the importance of making the Gold Coast a Hub for Education and Health, apart from existing Tourism and Construction.

    A regular member for 8 years prior, Laird accepted the Position of President and with many new Board Members, made changes to reverse the losses and return the Chamber to a profitable, Key Influencer in the Business Community. Establishing a stand-alone office and attracting 14 Key Board members has allowed the Chamber to be instrumental in establishing Southport as the CBD.

     Now as the President for 6 years, Laird has always worked with all sides of the Political Spectrum to bring about positive change and ensure the Bureaucrats that make decisions that affect us are aware of the Impact on Businesses and Residents alike.

    Noel Grummitt (Vice President)

    A qualified civil engineer and principal of Grummitt Planning, head of a town planning consultancy which has operated in Southport since its inception in 1996. Noel is involved in many of the regions notable developments and acted as the Chambers observer at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games after which he has been able to advise on benefits and advantages to be gained by the GC.  Noel loves Southport and its people and is excited about its future.

    Ian is Managing Partner of McLaughlins Lawyers, a firm which has been providing legal services from the Gold Coast since 1958, the last 28 years from Southport.

    Ian was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand in 1987, later practiced and was admitted in England and Wales before returning to practice in New Zealand.  

    Ian has been with McLaughlins since 2001, is married with two children, and has lived with his family in the Ecovillage at Currumbin since its inception in 2006.

    Ian chairs the Southport Community Consultative Committee quarterly meetings and has a passion for the growth of Southport as the CBD.

    I was born in Southport and has practically lived on the Gold Coast his whole life. I completed all of my schooling locally and proud that I am working at The MBA Partnership assisting local Gold Coast clients achieve their goals. I am a Treasurer of 3 not for profit organisations where I am responsible for all aspects of financial management. I am a Chartered Accountant and have also completed my Masters of Taxation and Diploma of Financial Planning.

    Brett James is the General Manager of Southport Yacht Club, a not for profit association with over 100 employees. Comprising of three venues, SYC is the Gold Coast's largest Yacht Club.

    Beginning his career as Golf Director at Sanctuary Cove, then Operations Manager at Emerald Lakes Golf Club, Brett has over 20 years' experience in hospitality and sport management. Along with these credentials, Brett’s vast experience in leisure management and membership organisations brings a wealth of knowledge to the Board.

    Brett attended Aquinas Catholic College, continuing to furthering his education studies at Griffith University in Business Management.

    In 2009 Brett ventured to Christchurch, New Zealand to develop Pegasus Town, a thriving community with a championship golf and sports club, dining facilities and a strong directory list of businesses. This lead to management roles in International and National sporting events in both New Zealand and Australia.  Brett became a Golf Professional in 2000, playing at major tournaments all across the globe whilst living in the United Kingdom, Japan, America and New Zealand.

    Brett is currently on the board of the Southport Chamber of Commerce, with a great vision in sustainable and consistent growth for the Gold Coast.  Having lived on the Gold Coast for 38 years, Brett has a great passion for our wonderful city and sees great potential in future progression, truly believing the Gold Coast is the best place on earth.

He has a diverse range of clients from hotels to property and internet companies which provide a unique barometer to gauge market trends across a broad spectrum of industry.

    David joined HeadlineAd as a Director and Partner in 2003 and previously had started out as an accountant working in commercial banking before moving through property marketing to senior positions as Director of Marketing for a number of educational institutions, concentrating on national and overseas sales.

    Jenny Crewes is the Manager of Somerville Funerals in Southport, part of the InvoCare Australia Pty Ltd Group, and has worked for the company for 10 years. 

    Prior to entering the world of Funeral Service, Jenny had a long career in Finance within the Hospitality Industry. This included the Southern Pacific Hotel Corporation as the Food and Beverage Controller of the Parkroyal Adelaide Hotel. Jenny then worked fifteen years with Hyatt International Hotels working in Australia, Guam, Japan and China – her final position being Resident Director of Finance at Park Hyatt Sydney.  Before Hotels Jenny had worked in restaurants cooking; then the Spotless Group as a Manager within their Industrial Catering Operations. Jenny worked with the National Australia Bank after leaving school.

    On relocating to the Gold Coast in 2006, Jenny worked at SeaWorld Nara Resort, Main Beach, as Assistant Financial Controller, before taking up her “sea change career” with Somerville Funerals.  Jenny’s role also takes in much of the Public Relations activity for the company and she is well known for her networking in the community and her many volunteer positions with Not For Profit groups.
