Remo's Long Road
Remo's Long Road
Thank you to everyone involved in helping this wonderful little boy.
Little Remo Banchetti is 5 years old. He has the heart of a lion and has captivated everyone who knows him. He is a sweet, charming, outgoing, funny and intelligent little boy.
Sadly, Remo has Stage IV Kidney Cancer, known as Wilms tumour, which has spread to his lymph nodes and into his little lungs. Less than 10% of children with this cancer are diagnosed in Stage IV and so his journey with chemotheraphy, radiation and surgery has begun as he faces the fight of his life.
Committee member Greg Tomkins recently had the pleasure to visit Remo and his mother Deborah to deliver a $700.00 cheque generously raised by the Southport Chamber of Commerce and its Members.
She was so overwhelmed with the generosity shown by so many people who didn't even know Remo and wished to thank the Chamber and everyone involved, particularly the companies who provided prizes, for all their generosity.
Greg spent some time with Deborah and Grandmother, Mae, talking about what the family is going through. They had just returned from a fun "Walk for Remo" held at Burleigh, so Remo was fully of energy and excitement. It is hard to think he is a very sick little boy with everyone living on the edge and surviving on raw nerves every day and night.
The family were also awaiting the diagnosis of his kidney removal and biopsy only 2 weeks before.
On Remo's Facebook page, Deborah made the following comments.
"After a very anxious and delayed wait for the results from the analysis of Remo's tumour, the histology shows that Remo's body has responded VERY wellto chemo. 98% of the cancer cells in his kidney were shattered! The doctors are extremely happy with these results & with Remo's progress so far alt...hough I was cautioned that it is still a VERY long road ahead. Remo still has to endure a lot of treatment over the next year to rid his body of all cancer cells. The results are good enough though so as to be able to adjust his chemo to a slightly lower dosage whilst he is receiving radiation. The doctor who gave me the news said that if he had been Remy's doctor at the time that he was diagnosed, and had he been the one to see Remy's first scans, he would have "shuddered in horror" at how badly Remo's little body was riddled with cancer..."
