For many years, its been increasing obvious that the entire Coast needs an 'efficient as possible' rapid transit system to move us around the suburbs - whilst integrating with our road system, heavy rail, residential concerns, current and future commercial precincts, bus routes etc.
Not a simple exercise and one that leaves many questioning the mode of transport, the 'seamlessness' of integration, the cost and disruption - now and in the future, with essentially a car-based population.
A partnership between all three tiers of government it is envisaged that the first ‘Light Rail Car’ will be in operation in 2014. Early works packages are well underway in Southport and Broadbeach preparing the streets for the roll out of the track by the PPP operator. The Southport Chamber of Commerce is taking an active role within the community consultation process to obtain the best possible solution for the Southport Area.
